Phase 5 our Mid-Summer Updates

Update on the suburban farm!

We have planted all of our vegetables and herbs, finished the chicken and duck runs, finished the fencing around the gardens, and built a "tomato cage" from left over building materials.

Here is our fire pit and grill area.                   This shed we build from FREE wood pallets

This is our wildlife garden and privacy trees.         Here is the deck for the duck pond, they got BIG!

Our 4 hens and 1 roster (so much for pre-sex chicks!)

The coop is almost finished, we will add 2 more windows and then get it painted!

Here are out grapes with their temporary support and out watermelon and pumpkin patch!

Check out the 'tomato cage' we build!

Here is an update on the fish and turtle pond (we also have 2 frogs living with us now!)

Next update on the wildlife and herb garden along the back fence. We have planted evergreens and poplar trees for privacy.

Left on our list to do is
-build 2 compost bins
-organize our wood pile
-finish painting the fencing and chicken coop
-put 2 more windows on the chicken coop
-upgrade the duck pond/deck for a larger pond

Phase 3 and 4 of our Backyard Farm project

Phase 3
Did some more work on the duck enclosure.  Got the second garden up as well as the new fence.  Kris started the new chicken coop.  I worked on getting the enclosure for the chicken coop started.

Phase 4
Chicken coop is constructed!  We have one or two more windows to put up and to paint it.  The chicken enclosure only needs a gate to finish it up.  The two and a half tons of wood chips filled in the fenced area where some trees and a walkway will be going.

Turning our "yard" into a Farm

So this took place in 4 phases each a full day long over the course of the past 2 weeks.

Phase 1
Getting the pond leveled.  Mulch around the new fire pit.  Planted some privacy trees.

The plants inside are growing and NEED to be planted outside!!!!  I have had to re-pot them twice and am currently out of space in my house near any window.

Phase 2
Above ground duck pond went up.  Garden fence with gate got completed.  Finished getting the duck enclosure done enough to move the ducklings outside. The deck for the duck pond was pretty hard to do.
